about

Nerds! this tune, originally recorded by Dock Boggs on banjo, is presented here inspired by John Renbourn's version on his 1971 LP for Transatlantic, "Faro Annie".
The setting for our version is in DADGAD tuning, which was pioneered by the legendary Davey Graham who devised it to play Morroccan oud and Indian Classical music on the guitar. Since then it has been used for Celtic music, so in the improvisation, Wise touches on a theme from a recording of Palestinian oud player Simon Shaheen, thus returning DADGAD to its roots.
Myke Hall used an octave divider to add low and high overtones to the guitar, and then we re-amped it through a late 60's Vibratone rotary speaker in an effort to make the guitar sound like that holiest of instruments, the Hammond B-3 organ. enjoy!
